Aileen is a project team leader focused on therapeutic areas of Inflammation, Auto-Immune Disease, and Ophthalmology, among others. In these therapeutic categories, Aileen’s work focuses on opportunity assessments of early stage compounds and identification of ideal clinical paths forward to maximize chances of clinical and commercial success, including indication selection and prioritization. In addition, Aileen leads an active strategy practice for target identification and prioritization for platform technology companies.

Prior to joining Defined Health, Aileen was a research scientist whose pharmaceutical industry experience, academic training and publications were focused primarily on the molecular biology and genetics of Immunology, Inflammation and Vision. She held a Post-Doctoral research position at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, where she performed discovery research and gained project management experience on projects focused on the role of inflammatory mediators in regulating cytokine gene expression and T-helper cell development. She was a recipient of the Boehringer Ingelheim Ingot Golden Achievement Award. Aileen's graduate research at the University of Michigan included the identification of a novel gene that, when mutated, causes a form of the inherited blinding disease, Leber congenital amaurosis. This gene (RPE65) is now the target of gene therapy approaches in mid-stage clinical development.

In her spare time, Aileen enjoys the outdoors, biking, yoga and art. She received a BS in Chemistry, with Honors, from the College of William and Mary, and an MS and a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of Michigan.
